Retry your iPod with a different USB port on your computer. You must make sure that the USB port is not on your keyboard or hub.

Restart
If resetting your iPod and retrying your iPod with a different USB port hasn't solved your problem you should then try to restart your computer and re-install the latest iTunes and iPod software onto your computer.
Tips:

If updating your software on Windows, you should select the Windows Update tab from the Tools menu of Internet Explorer.

If updating your software on Mac OS, you should select the Software Update tab from the Apple Menu.
